Key Points

The Focke Wulf Marinejäger is a Swiss Automatic watch with a 42mm case with tapering polished lugs and a chrome bezel. It is made from high-grade stainless steel. Inspired by the sea, it is water resistant to 200 meters (20 atmospheres) and features a screw crown for added protection. Simple and precise, the black luminous face is surrounded by a unidirectional rotating domed sapphire bezel, coated with anti-reflective and scratch-resistant sapphire glass. The movement is the best-in-class Sellita Automatic SW200 with three hands (with a red-tipped second-hand sweeper). The rear case features a transparent window into the heart of the refined, intricate engine of the watch. With a black leather strap with white stitching, the buckle has the Focke Wulf name proudly engraved to complete a beautiful and stylish watch. Worthy of the Focke Wulf name.

Inspiration

The Marinejäger (Naval Hunter) Fw 200 men’s Swiss automatic watch is inspired by the infamous maritime reconnaissance and attack aircraft that Churchill dubbed the 'Scourge of the Atlantic'. In 1940, the Kriegsmarine was in desperate need of an aircraft that could conduct long-range maritime patrols. In the absence of a purpose-built military aircraft, the Fw 200 was a logical choice. It was a stable, easy to fly aircraft, with an excellent operational range. Once converted for military use, it could carry a decent payload of bombs or mines. Within a year they had sunk close to 365,000 tonnes of Allied shipping in a cruel war with the brave men and women who served in the Allied merchant navies. They also served as reconnaissance aircraft, hunting in the shadows and feeding information back to the Wolf packs that infested the North Atlantic. The Allies adapted quickly, and soon the hunters themselves were being hunted, eventually being driven from the skies.

Care and maintenance of Marinejäger Swiss automatic watches

Owning a Marinejäger means possessing a piece of precision engineering inspired by the formidable Fw 200 "Naval Hunter." True to its heritage of serving above the Atlantic, the Marinejäger is not just any timepiece; it is a Swiss automatic watch capable of diving to depths of up to 200 metres, making it technically a dive watch.

Here are detailed care and maintenance tips to ensure your watch remains a reliable companion, whether on land or at sea:

  • Winding — Your watch's automatic Swiss movement is designed to wind itself while worn, but if it has not been worn for a day or more, it is advisable to wind it manually. Gently wind the crown 15-20 times clockwise for optimal performance.
  • Cleaning — After exposure to saltwater or chlorine, rinse your Marinejäger in fresh water and dry it with a soft cloth. For regular cleaning, use a soft brush and soapy water to gently cleanse the case and strap, maintaining the lustre without damaging the material.
  • Regular service—Like any high-performance machine, Swiss automatic watches benefit from regular servicing to ensure longevity and accuracy. Depending on usage, it is recommended that your Marinejäger undergo professional servicing every three to five years.
  • Movement servicing — During servicing, the movement is carefully inspected and re-lubricated, while worn or damaged parts are replaced to keep the intricate mechanism running smoothly.

For use in water

  • Checks — Before any aquatic use, ensure the crown is fully tightened to prevent water ingress. Regularly check the integrity of the crown and caseback seals and consider having them replaced every two years to maintain the 200m water resistance.
  • Post-dive care — After dives, ensure that all salt residue is cleaned off, as salt can corrode metal components and seals, reducing the efficacy and lifespan of your automatic Swiss watch.

Storage

  • Environment — Store your Marinejäger in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, which can fade the dial and damage the watch. Avoid environments with strong magnetic fields, as they can affect the accuracy of your Swiss automatic watches.
  • Watch winder — If you own multiple watches and rotate their use, consider investing in a watch winder. This keeps your Marinejäger wound and ready for use, ensuring the lubricants within the movement are evenly distributed.
